<\/p>\nMexican Independence Day is celebrated on September 16. The date marks the beginning of Mexico\u2019s fight for independence from Spanish rule in 1810.<\/p>\n
However, the celebrations traditionally begin on the evening of September 15, with one of Mexico\u2019s most important national traditions: El Grito de Independencia.<\/p>\n
This is why September 15 is such a special night across Mexico. Cities and towns fill with people, Mexican flags, music, traditional food and celebrations leading up to the famous cry of \u201c\u00a1Viva M\u00e9xico!\u201d<\/p>\n
The story began in Dolores, Guanajuato. On the night of September 15\u201316, 1810, Catholic priest Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla rang the church bell and called on the people to rise against Spanish colonial rule.<\/p>\n
This moment went down in history as the Grito de Dolores and is considered the beginning of Mexico\u2019s independence movement.<\/p>\n
Today, its legacy is commemorated every year during El Grito de Independencia. In Mexico City, thousands of people traditionally gather at the Z\u00f3calo to witness the ceremony, while cries in honour of Mexico and its heroes of independence ring out from the balcony of the National Palace.<\/p>\n
And that is why September 15 is the evening when Mexico\u2019s Independence Day celebrations truly begin.<\/p>\n

Mexican Independence Day is much more than remembering a historical event. It is a celebration of Mexican identity, culture and traditions.<\/p>\n
During these days, Mexico is filled with the colours of green, white and red. Cities and squares are decorated with flags, people gather with family and friends, and traditional Mexican dishes take centre stage.<\/p>\n
The celebrations are lively, colourful and full of energy \u2013 just as you would expect from a Mexican fiesta.<\/p>\n
And, of course, food plays an important role. During Fiestas Patrias, Mexico\u2019s patriotic celebrations, traditional dishes such as pozole, chiles en nogada, pambazos, garnachas and other antojitos are often enjoyed. Food is an essential part of how Mexicans celebrate and come together.<\/p>\n
This year, we want to celebrate Mexican Independence Day at Mezcalli for more than just one evening.<\/p>\n
